Product Description

CRH0603F910KP05Z — 0603 910K 0.125W Ever Ohms Resistor: Specifications, Power Limits and Selection Notes

The CRH0603F910KP05Z is a thick film high power chip resistor from EVER OHMS (Ever Ohms Technology). It comes in a 0603 package with a resistance of 910 kΩ, a tolerance of ±1%, and a rated power of 1/8 W (0.125 W). In practice this part shows up in voltage dividers, pull-up and pull-down networks, bleeder paths and feedback loops. The sections below cover part number decoding, electrical ratings, real power limits, layout cautions and sourcing.

1. How to read the part number

Ever Ohms uses a segmented part number, so the basic specification can be read directly off the label:

  • CRH — series code. CR is the general-purpose thick film chip resistor; H indicates the high power (uprated) version in the same footprint.
  • 0603 — package size, 1.60 mm × 0.80 mm (metric 1608).
  • F — tolerance, F = ±1% (G = ±2%, J = ±5% in the same series).
  • 910K — 910 kΩ, a standard E24 value.
  • P05 — packaging code, 7-inch reel tape, typically 5000 pcs per reel for 0603.
  • Z — lead-free / environmental code, RoHS and REACH compliant.

The CRH series is an uprated derivative of the standard CR series. In the same 0603 footprint, CR is rated at 1/10 W while this 0603 910K 0.125W Ever Ohms resistor reaches 1/8 W — roughly 25% more headroom with no change to land pattern or board area. Ever Ohms was founded in 1988 and its lines are certified to ISO-9001 and IATF 16949, with automotive grades qualified to AEC-Q200.

3. The real power limit at 910 kΩ

This is the point most designers miss: at 910 kΩ the 0.125 W rating is never actually reached.

  • Driving the part to its full 0.125 W would require √(0.125 × 910000) ≈ 337 V, while the maximum working voltage is only 75 V.
  • The CRH0603F910KP05Z is therefore voltage-limited, not power-limited: at 75 V it dissipates only about 6.2 mW, and even under a 150 V overload transient it stays near 24.7 mW.
  • Where the circuit voltage exceeds 75 V — AC line sensing, for example — two to four resistors should be placed in series, with the voltage share and individual dissipation checked.

The flip side is useful in low-voltage designs. At 3.3 V, 5 V or 12 V the dissipation sits in the microwatt range, self-heating is negligible, and drift is governed by TCR rather than by temperature rise. A 3.3 V pull-up through 910 kΩ draws about 3.63 µA.

Standard thick film derating still applies: full power up to 70 °C, then linear derating to zero at 155 °C. At an ambient of 100 °C the usable power is roughly 0.081 W, and at 125 °C about 0.044 W. For a 910 kΩ part that is rarely the binding constraint, but long-term stability at high temperature is worth verifying.

4. Construction

The CRH series uses an alumina ceramic substrate. Inner electrodes are formed on the bottom and sides, followed by the resistive layer, a protective overcoat and the marking layer; a nickel barrier and tin plating complete the termination. The resistive element is a metal-oxide paste screen-printed onto the substrate, fired at high temperature, then laser-trimmed into the ±1% window.

Thick film gives low cost, wide resistance coverage and good moisture and pulse robustness, at the expense of TCR and long-term stability versus thin film. High-value, low-self-heating parts such as 910 kΩ fall squarely in thick film's sweet spot. Where ±0.1% tolerance and ±25 ppm/°C are required, the Ever Ohms TR thin film precision series is the better fit.

5. Typical applications

  • Pull-up / pull-down: MCU GPIO, I²C lines, reset and enable pins. 910 kΩ is a weak pull-up, suited to power-sensitive nodes where edge speed is not critical.
  • Voltage sensing dividers: output voltage monitoring, battery monitoring, AC input detection. The resistor sets the attenuation ratio into an ADC or comparator input.
  • Bleeder and discharge paths: X-capacitor discharge, bus capacitor bleed-down, MOSFET gate charge removal. Verify the discharge time constant against the applicable safety requirement.
  • Feedback and timing networks: DC-DC feedback dividers, op-amp gain setting, RC timing and filtering. Higher resistance lowers quiescent current but increases sensitivity to input bias current.
  • High-impedance biasing: sensor front ends, ESD bleed paths, input stages for low-current measurement.

6. Design and assembly notes

  1. Board leakage: at 910 kΩ the operating current is only a few microamps, the same order as surface leakage from humidity or flux residue. In humid or contaminated environments, slot the board beside high-impedance nodes, increase creepage distance, or apply conformal coating.
  2. Parallel paths: the higher the resistance, the more stray parallel impedance matters. Keep copper pours and via arrays away from high-impedance nodes.
  3. Voltage spacing: check pad-to-pad and net-to-net spacing against the actual working voltage, especially on AC mains sections.
  4. Soldering: follow the lead-free reflow profile with a peak temperature kept within 260 °C. During rework, avoid prolonged single-sided heating that stresses the terminations unevenly.
  5. Sulfur exposure: CRH is a standard thick film series and is not anti-sulfur. In sulfur-bearing atmospheres or near vulcanized rubber, switch to the Ever Ohms anti-sulfur (AS) series.
  6. Value confusion: 910K, 91K and 9.1M are easy to mix up on labels and reels. Verify the part number suffix against the factory label before production.

7. Authorized sourcing

Chip resistors are commodity parts and a common target for counterfeits and remarking. Sourcing the 0603 910K 0.125W Ever Ohms resistor through authorized channels is the simplest way to protect the supply chain.
